Agincourt - Locations Visited

The Museum - The Agincourt Museum of Local History contains a wealth of information taking the visitor right to the heart of the battle in which the French King Charles VI was defeated by Henry V's depleted, tired and outnumbered troops.

Your students will have the opportunity to:
  • See medieval weapons & try on armour
  • Feel the weight of chain mail
  • Have an archery demonstration & fire a longbow
  • Learn about the geography, tactics and conditions of the battle
  • Make brass rubbings of subjects relating to the battle
  • Watch an audio-visual presentation of the battle
  • See documents & illuminated panels of the period
  • Study a scale model of the battlefield.

The Battlefield - an English-speaking Guide will give a brief introduction to the Hundred Years' War and Henry's campaign before explaining the route to and reasons why the battle was fought, and why it took place at Agincourt. The Guide will then show your students around all the main locations and features of the battlefield and provide a clear explanation of the battle.

The tour/explanation includes:
  • The sites of the English and French camps the night before
  • The positions of the opposing armies at commencement
  • Henry's advanced position which precipitated the doomed French assaults
  • The significance of the choice of ground with Henry's flanks protected by the woods to either side
  • The prevailing weather conditions which greatly hampered the heavily-armed French knights
  • A visit to the French burial mound.
