Amiens - Possible Activities

Saint-Leu district - known as the 'Little Venice of the North'. Use the official 40-minute walk to explore the area around the canals and develop language skills. See the oldest houses in Amiens, the modern university, the puppet theatre, and, on Saturday morning, the 'Marché sur l'eau' where the local producers sell choice fruit and vegetables.

A boat tour around the 'Hortillonnages' or floating gardens - a series of tiny islands where local producers still grow their fruit and vegetables. The trip is subject to availability and you may prefer to view the Hortillonnages by strolling along the towpath.

The Cathedral - one of the largest gothic monuments in France, twice the size of Notre-Dame in Paris. On summer evenings, you can see the coloured front portals as they used to be in the Middle Ages, thanks to spectacular light projections.

Underground City of Naours - situated between Amiens and Doullens. It is 33m underground consisting of 26 galleries and 300 rooms.

Parc du Marquenterre - 250 hectares of dunes, forest and marsh, rich in ornithological species.

Historical venues - Historial de la Grande Guerre and Newfoundland Park.

Whatever else you do, the Little Venice excursion is a must.
