Bosworth History School Trips (1 & 2 Days)

Take your students on a History School trip to Bosworth where one of the defining battles of English History took place and is relevant to both KS3 and GCE courses covering the Wars of the Roses or Early Tudors. Recent archaeological discoveries have allowed historians to take a radically fresh look at both the battle and the king; a survey of the battlefield has meant a significant relocation of the fighting and the dramatic discovery of the remains of King Richard in a car park in Leicester has not only turned the city into a major new tourist destination but has allowed experts to re-examine the popular image of the king as a hunchbacked villain.

We can tailor your History tour to cover your students' specific learning objectives. Please ask to speak to one of our team to discuss your requirements.

The award-winning Heritage Centre located where the battle was traditionally thought to have raged uses displays & a range of interactive media to tell the dramatic story of the day which changed English history. A tour of the battlefield can be arranged allowing students to appreciate how the terrain - & the motives of the key participants - influenced the outcome.

The newly created visitor centre explains how the king's remains were discovered & how the latest scientific techniques were used to secure a positive identification. Find out whether Richard really was a hunchback & explore the possible scandal surrounding his family line. Students of English Literature & Science will benefit from the cross-curricular nature of the centre's displays.

Richard now lies in a splendid new tomb in Leicester Cathedral, much to the irritation of his modern-day Yorkist supporters who campaigned unsuccessfully to return him to what they see as his true home. A brief tour of the medieval building is included in your visit.   This picturesque fortified mansion was built for Lord Hastings, who was dramatically seized & executed by Richard III in 1483. The atmospheric moated remains, the fine gatehouse & complete corner tower have been extensively conserved by English Heritage.
