English Literature Overview

Welcome to Galina's English Literature Study Tours

Our poetry study tours have been designed to place the poetry of the First World War, in situ, on the battlefields of France & Flanders & in the context of changing attitudes & circumstances as they developed over the course of the war.

Poetry of the First World War

For AS/A2 we have produced itineraries based on the three different anthologies used for AQA (Specification A):

Gardner:  Up the Line to Death (locations: Ypres, Somme & Passchendaele)

Stallworthy:  Oxford Book of War Poetry (locations: Ypres, Vimy, Somme, Hindenburg Line)

Reilly:  Scars Upon My Heart (locations:  Ypres, Somme, Vimy & Arras)

We have also produced an itinerary relevant to the OCR Specification covering the poetry of Wilfred Owen in the places where he served (locations: Somme & Hindenburg Line). 

For GCSE we have produced itineraries based on the anthologies used by OCR, AQA & WJEC:

OCR Specification:  Opening Lines (locations:  Ypres, Messines & Passchendaele

AQA (Specification B):  War Poems ed. Martin (locations:  Ypres, Somme, Messines & Passchendaele)

WJEC (Specification A):  WJEC Anthology (Ypres, Messines & Passchendaele with the Somme included on longer tours for historical context)       

 

The Diary of Anne Frank

This tour, based on The Diary of Anne Frank, is a recent addition to our tour programme & is relevant to the Edexcel Specification (1213) & WJEC (Specification B) & includes visits in Amsterdam, Arnhem & the concentration camp at Vught.
