Geography School trips to the Lakes & Liverpool: Impact of Tourism & Urban Study

Our Geography School trips to the Lake District & Liverpool focus on the impact of tourism in the popular tourist honeypot of Grasmere.

We provide data collection sheet templates your students to use or adapt depending upon their learning objectives. For GCSE groups, we include exam-style GCSE questions which can help to assess the impact of the trip on learning.

We can tailor your itinerary to cover your students' specific learning objectives.  Please ask to speak to one of our Geography Consultants to discuss your particular requirements. This tour also includes an urban study in Liverpool.

Tourism Study

Grasmere & Ambleside: Impact of Tourism

Locations

  Grasmere10

Grasmere Geography trips
Grasmere: The village of Grasmere is a superb location for an investigation into the impact of tourism on a rural honeypot site.

The size & layout of the village makes it ideal for data collection - visitor & resident questionnaires, traffic flow measurement, car park studies, land use surveys & environmental impact assessments can all be carried out here.

Students can investigate how the village has changed by mapping the building functions in the village currently with those in the past.

The numerous small car parks & the newly built coach park gives an insight into the village's sphere of influence & is a good location to carry out visitor questionnaires

Ambleside: This provides a much larger example of a village which has been changed significantly by tourism. You can use this either as an alternative study to Grasmere or as well as (time permitting).

Liverpool: Regeneration of the City

Locations

  Albert-Dock-Geography-school-trips-Liverpool

Liver Building   Albert Dock:  The Albert Dock closed in 1972 due to the decline of Liverpool's docks in the wake of  containerisation. Formerly derelict, today, it is the most-visited multi-use attraction in the UK outside London & the largest single collection of Grade I listed buildings anywhere in the country.

Museums in the Albert Dock:  These include the Tate Liverpool, the Merseyside Maritime Museum & the Beatles Story which all re-use parts of the old warehouses. Apart from the museums, there are two hotels & several bars & restaurants in the dock.

Pier Head:  The Royal Liver, Cunard & Port of Liverpool Buildings are all Grade I or II* listed & sometimes referred to as The Three Graces. All were built at the beginning of the 20th century.  The Cunard Building now houses the British Music Experience.

Liverpool One:  This new shopping & leisure development has rejuvenated the City Centre & boosted the local economy. It includes public spaces, retail outlets, offices, leisure facilities & apartments. Chavasse Park provides a nearby green space.
