How to Book a History Tour

Choosing a Tour

To find the tours that are relevant to you, click on your subject area & then type in the first letter(s) of your postcode.  This will produce a list of tours which can be done from your particular part of the country with an approximate indication of when you will be picked up at the start of your tour & when you will return to school at the end of your tour.

Making an Enquiry

You can contact us by email or use our freephone number 0800 801 560 to discuss your requirements directly.  It helps if you know the time of year you wish to travel & which ferry route you want to take.

Our itineraries can be amended to include a specific location or visit that you request, so please tell us about any changes you would like to make & if they are practical we will incorporate your ideas into the tour.

Receiving a Quotation from Galina

We will send a free quotation to you detailing the cost of your tour together with a sliding scale for parties between 23 & 44 & up to 5 free staff.  The quotation will also specify:

  • your preferred route via Dover, Folkestone, Hull or Portsmouth
  • the type of accommodation & meal arrangements for your tour
  • the details of any venues you wish to visit
  • the cost of insurance (optional)
  • the guide fee (if not already included)

If you decide to travel with us you wil need to complete & sign the booking form enclosed with the quotation & return it to our office with your group deposit.

Sending a Deposit

If you are happy with your quotation, arrange a date with your group for the return of deposits.  Once the deposits have been received, send a cheque to Galina for the amount stated in your quotation along with the booking form, duly completed & signed.  It is important that you complete the booking form so that we can invoice your school correctly & organize your tour according to the information given.

Putting Your Tour in Place

We will send you a receipt detailing the deposit paid & the date by which the balance is due.  We will also book all the elements of your tour - coach, ferry, accommodation, venues etc. - as soon as we receive your deposit.  We will also provide you with the risk assessments relating to your tour (see our Safety Management System for further details).

Your Tour Administrator

You will have a tour administrator assigned to look after your tour, who will make all the arrangements for you & keep you informed of progress.  We will provide you with their direct number should you have any queries regarding your tour.

Some Advice

Getting permission:  Headteachers are more likely to grant permission to travel if you can demonstrate the educational value of the tour.  We will provide you with a detailed itinerary (when we send your quotation) identifying the curriculum relevance of the tour, together with sample tasks from the supporting study pack to help you make your case.

Talk to your subject advisor:  Your advisor may be able to direct you towards sources of funding for your tour.

Plan ahead:  Some tours fail to happen because not enough time has been allowed to inform parents & guardians or collect deposits & balances.  The earlier you start planning your tour the more likely it is that you will get the driver & accommodation that you want.

Think about cross-curricular tours:  If you only have a small group it might be worth considering organising a tour with another department to increase your numbers & keep the price down.

Allow for contingencies:  We provide a sliding scale of prices on all our quotations.  If you are not certain how many students are likely to travel, it is often better to assume a lower number than the full complement of 44.  It is far easier to give money back if you do get a higher number travelling, than ask for more because you have not got the level of interest you expected.

Use your local authority insurance:  We can provide suitable insurance for your group but you may wish to see what your local authority can provide as it can often provide a good deal because of its buying power.
