Take your Geography students on a school trip to Boulogne. Visits include Nausicaä Sea Life Centre & the Mareis Sea Fishing Discovery Centre. Together they examine the relationship between people & the sea. Topics include marine life in the English Channel, different marine ecosystems, the impact of the fishing industry on fish stocks, the reasons for changes in the fishing industry, the ecological & economic consequences of pollution & managing the marine environment.

One-Day Tour (for schools within 120 miles of Dover)

  • School pick-up (earliest 06.00 hours) & travel to Dover for morning ferry crossing to Calais
  • Onward travel to Boulogne
  • Marine Ecosystems: Visit Nausicaä Marine Life Centre in Boulogne
  • The Fishing Industry on the Opal Coast: Visit the Mareis Sea Fishing Discovery Centre
  • Depart from Boulogne & travel to Calais for early evening ferry to Dover
  • Disembark & return to school. Evening drop-off

  • Onward travel to Boulogne arriving lunch-time
  • Marine ecosystem: Afternoon visit to Nausicaä Marine Life Centre
  • Half-board accommodation in/near Boulogne
  • Day 2: Depart after breakfast to visit the Mareis Sea Fishing Discovery Centre
  • Optional free time in Boulogne to explore the old town & harbour area
  • Depart from Boulogne & travel to Calais for early evening ferry to Dover
  • Disembark & return to school. Evening drop-off 
 

 

Three-Day Tour (for schools north of Birmingham)

 
  • Days 1 & 2: Outward travel on Day 1 & visits to Nausicaä & Mareis Centre as per Day 2 above
  • Two night's half-board accommodation in/near Boulogne
  • Day 3: Supplementary study of the fishing industry centred on Boulogne harbour area
  • Depart for return crossing to Dover via Calais
  • Disembark & return to school. Evening drop-off

Nausicaä is one of the largest public aquariums in Europe. Its main focus is on the relationship between the human population & the sea & marine life. Visitors can explore different marine ecosystems, both locally & globally.

 

Exhibits include: • Shark Aquarium • Sea Lion Reserve • Tropical Lagoon • Ocean • Submerged Tropical Rainforest • Penguin Beach

 

Nausicaä also has a Touch Pool where students can examine & touch sea creatures close up

 

Learn about the importance & impact of the fishing industry in this region of France & globally. Find out about the skills of the fishermen, the dangers they face & the different fishing techniques they employ.

 

Exhibits focus on: • Marine life in the English Channel • Marine environment of the North Sea    • climate change & the oceans • sustainability

 

Guided visits lasting 75 minutes are included in the entrance fee
