Science School trips to The Netherlands - Ecosystems (3 or 4 Days)

Our Science school trips (ecosystems) to The Netherlands are based upon the superb zoological exhibits at Burgers' Zoo near Arnhem.  Animals are grouped according to the ecosystem they inhabit.  There is living tropical rainforest, an arid Senoran desert environment, a mangrove swamp, ocean aquarium & south-east Asian savannah as well as a Safari area.

All our study tours can be tailored to meet your requirements. This tour is available via Dover or Hull (3 days minimum).  You can also add a day to visit the Nemo Centre or Corpus in Amsterdam or combine with other departments including History, Religious StudiesGeography.

 

Itinerary

 

Day One:  Outward Journey

  • School pick-up (earliest 06.00 hours) & travel to Dover
  • Ferry to Calais or Dunkirk
  • Onward travel to Amsterdam
  • Check-in & evening meal
  • Full-board for two nights
 
 

Day Two:  Burgers' Zoo, Arnhem

   
  • Students can visit & discover a range of eco-domes including: Tropical rainforest • Senoran arid desert • Rimba: based on the south-east Asian ecosystem • mangrove swamp • African Plains Safari • ocean aquarium

 

  • Fieldwork tasks & activities provided
  • Return to accommodation & evening meal

 

Burgers Zoo Arid Desert

 

 

Day Three:  Return Journey

   
  • Depart after breakfast & travel to Calais or Dunkirk
  • Cross-Channel ferry to Dover
  • Disembark & return to school
  • Return time dependent on school's location in the UK
 

 

Add an Extra Day

   
  • Visit the Nemo Centre & Corpus in Amsterdam with interactive displays
  • See Science in Amsterdam tour for details
  • Combine with History or RS & include visits to the Anne Frank House & Kamp Vught
  • Combine with Geography with study day in Amsterdam
  • Add a "fun" day at a theme park (see leisure options)
  • This can help you sell your  tour - especially if you have competition with other trips

Guided visit can be included for your walk through this amazing living exhibit. You will be able to see, hear, touch & smell the plants that grow on the forest floor & lower canopy.

 

Travel from beach to deep sea & visit one of the largest specimen tanks in Europe. Your journey begins in the intertidal zone & continues past the continental shelf & on to the deep sea.

 

 

 

 

 

Senoran Desert

Based upon the Senoran desert, this exhibit, complete with gold mine, contains plants & animals adapted to this harsh environment including reptiles, bighorn sheep & rattlesnakes.

 

This exhibit contains some of the most endangered species on Earth from South East Asia. All are part of global conservation projects, detailed at each exhibit.

 

 

 

   

Safari: African Plains

Based upon the African plains. A tree-top walkway enables you to observe the animals. Zebra, giraffe, antelope, rhino & elephant & big cats can all be seen.

 

Visit the hot & humid mangrove swamp by travelling along the elevated walkway. Keep an eye out for frogs, lizards & butterflies moving through the plants above your head!
