War, Religion & Ethics in WWI: Religious Studies School Trips to Ypres (1, 2 & 3 Days)

Our Religious Studies school trips to Ypres examine Britain's role in the First World War in the light of Christian values & how those values were tested by the conflict. The tour will be accompanied by a guide who will deliver the tour content & tailor it to the requirements of your group/specification. All our visits and study materials are designed to ensure that your students not only gain knowledge and understanding of religion and beliefs (AO1) but are also encouraged to evaluate their significance and influence on the world we live in (AO2).

When the British went to war in 1914, the vast majority justified their actions on the basis that they were fighting a "Just War" against a bullying aggressor in defence of civilisation.  By 1918, those assumptions had been called into question in response to the suffering, hardship & horrific nature of the fighting.  Furthermore, the insistence upon unconditional surrender provoked growing criticism regarding the conduct of the war & its continued prosecution.
